Dr. Ben Weider, president of the International Napoleonic Society, could not attend our conference, but wished us well by sending us a videotape of the 1997 battle re-enactment at Borodino, Russia.
The first part showed a variety of soldiers marching before the battle monument prior to the re-enactment, followed by an invocation by Russian priests, and then followed by a bevy of speeches by various politicians. OK, we tended to fast forward through this portion, though I am sure they were all fine speeches.
Then the action started with infantry charges, artillery firings, and cavalry charges across the re-enactment field. We rewound this at a couple of points to try and figure out what was occurring, matching the re-enactor actions to the historical battle. We figured out most of it.
The tape ended with a speech by Dr. Weider. Sorry...no photos.
