Army Lists: Introduction

by Rudy Scott Nelson

Several companies with 15mm Fantasy ranges often vary the troop and weapons types. This is one reason why the weapon classes are formulated as they are. Players should not have a problem classifying their troops. Establishing a background is a necessary part of a fantasy system with data on creatures and races for creating a “historical” code of conduct. Armies with historical backgrounds are known or more easily researched. The included lists are examples and should be used as guidelines for countries using similar troop types.

The terms Good, Neutral and Evil refers to the alignment of the races. Good races cannot be allied with Evil races and visa versa. Neutral races can be allied with other Neutrals, Good or Evil races. There are two same country/race generals allowed for a 1000 point army. Two allied generals including wizards are allowed if allies or different races are used. Humans can be any of the Moral alignments.

Organization

The Organization section will list (in order) ID - Type - Weapons- DA- Morale- OB.

ID = The name used to distinguish troop types.
TYPE = This is the Formation and deployment class which also determines base mounting. See the Basic Rules paragraph on Combat types for an explanation of codes.
ARMS = Primary weapons used by a unit. Troops armed with only distance weapons or are Artillery-equipment crews will melee with SM unless otherwise noted. The (/) indicates an OR choice in which some stands/units can be armed with different weapons. The (+) indicates a multi-armed unit. SM-Secondary; IM-Impact; LM- Light arms; LB- Longbow; CB-Crossbow; BW- Bow; SL- Sling, J- Javelin for skirmishing
DA = This is the defensive armor rating of the unit. Troops armed with Two-handed weapons including firing a bow or using two-handed blades or clubs in a melee are treated as shieldless when they are using it and shielded when not. It does not apply to Special Creatures. NA-No Armor, LA Light Armor; MA-Metal Armor; PL- Plate Armor
Morale: Used only in the Advanced/Campaign rules. It indicates a willingness to fight.
OB MAX = The maximum number of stands (not units) allowed in a 1000 point army. If part of a multi-racial force, the maximums for Dominant Races are reduced by 1/3.
POINTS = The number of points that each STAND (not per casting) costs when raising Armies of a certain point total. The system will produce Balanced Armies but scenarios with Unbalanced Armies especially in the Fantasy setting should not be avoided. The Historical Armies calculations include Optional Morale ratings. The Fantasy Armies DO NOT Include the optional Morale Ratings. If Fantasy or Historical opponents are used, then the controller needs to decide which List to modify to make them compatible with the other style armies. Troop Types with a cost of 0 or less cost ½ per stand in the unit.

OPTIONAL POINT SYSTEM

Base Number is based on the Defensive Armor rating + Weapons + troop class. The optional morale is used if part of the Historical list.
