~1000 Pagan conquers Thaton after a three month siege. Captures sacred Buddhist texts & monks. 1056 Pagan advances downriver and captures Prome
1057…………..Pagan conquers several of the towns in Arakan
1060…………..Pagan sends and expedition to attack Chittagong in Bengal. It is a raid launched mainly to obtain sacred Buddhist relics.
1065………….Pagan sends an expedition to Nan Chao. They encounter larger Nan Chao forces..
1070………….Pagan + Arakan + Ceylon vs Cholas tribes of Madras, India
1084………….Pagan vs Talaings of Pegu
1090………….Pagan raids the Indian town and lands of Thandaung
1100………….Pagan vs Cholas of Madras. Minor raids.
1102-03………Talaing + Burman + Arakan exiles invade Arakan
1113………….Bassein revolts against Pagan rule
114………….Dacoits raid the villages of Pagan
1114………….Pagan troops raid the towns in southern Arakan
1115………….Tenasserim revolts against Pagan rule
1115-1118……Pagan-Arakan War. The war focused on the coastal and island towns of northern Arakan. The Pagan employed Tailang allies. The Pagan troops advanced by land and the Tailang troops advanced by ship along the coast. Two Tailang fleets were defeated by the Arakanese in different years. Finally by 1118 the towns had been captured and the loyal ‘rightful’ ruler returned to power.

1167-1170…….Pagan involved in factional fighting over control of the throne
1180…………..Ceylon raids the coastal allies (Arakan) of Pagan
1255…………..Pagan defeated the city of Martaban
1255…………..Pagan is defeated by the forces of Machagire
1277………….MONGOL INVASION OF BURMA. .Pagan vs Kanngai which is a vassal of Yuan China
1277………….Yuan China authorizes the Yunnan provincial governor to invade Upper Burma. Most of the Mongol troops are Shan levies from Yunnan and Burma itself. The levies are supported by Turkish Moslem auxiliary cavalry. Very few true Mongol troops are present. 1277. Battle of Ngasaunggyan, Aka Plain of Vochan. Burmese ( 2000 elephants + 15,000 cavalry + 45,000 foot) vs Mongols (12,000 cavalry + 20,000 + foot) some accounts do not list the levy foot for the Mongols. The Mongols dismount and drive off the leading elephant charge with bowfire. The elephant charge had outdistanced the main body of foot to such an extent that theMongols were able to remount !! The Mongols levy infantry delayed the main body of the Burmese long enough for the cavalry to remount. The remounted Mongols now engaged and defeated the Burmese after a hard fight. The Mongols were superior troops but had difficulty withstanding the sheer numbers of the Burmese.

1277……………Mongols forces raid villages and towns in Burma but fail to garrison any towns.
1280…………..Exile Burmans from Ava found Toungoo. Many years are spent fighting Shan raiders.
1281………Pegu + Martaban vs Burman controlled towns located south of Prome
1281………Shan towns in Upper Burma revolt against Pagan-Burman rule
1283……………Burmese renew raids into the Yunnan province of Yuan China. In the battle of Kaungsin, Mongol troops including Mongol regulars defeat the main Burmese army.

1285…………..Arakan and Prome revolt and remove Pagan governors in an effort to distance themselves from the attacks on Yunnan.
1285…………..Mongol troops capture and burn Pagan effectively ending pagan domination in Burma.
1286-1297……Upper Burma is engulfed in civil war and various small towns fighting over new territory.
1287……..……Pegu vs Martaban. Martaban defeated and began to rule Pegu
1287………….Shan attack ethnic Talaing and Burman villages.
1287…Shan successor kingdoms are founded in Myinsaing and later in Mohnyin (1296), Hsenwe (1289),.
1293………….Kyaukse (Shan) attacks Martaban to capture a sacred white elephant
1294………….Shan raid Arakan towns
1297………….A weak neo-Pagan town is built but is a vassal of Yuan China.
1298………….Shan successor states unite to gain control of Pagan.
