The Insurgent army wore a vast array of uniforms and combination of uniforms, as would be expected by an insurgent army. Drawings of the initial seizure of the Rendsburg fort, shows Insurgent forces to be wearing the standard Danish Model 1842 uniform with belltop shako. Quickly the Insurgent forces were provided with uniforms by the "Federal" governments which gave the Insurgent Army the German look of its allies. Still throughout the war, comments are made about the use of captured and dyed Danish equipment. I am not sure if the dyed Danish red tunics resulted in a dark gray, blue or dusty black shade. The mid-blue trousers would have easily turned gray , though pictures show troops wearing them in the original mid-blue color. Artwork examples include: Fredericia 1849.
