Special Rules

This scenario was set up for my rules 'Sarissa & Elephant' but I've tried to explain the limiting factors for any set of rules.

The Ground

The Vineyards: All Cna marked squares are Vineyards. Units in the Vineyards are disorganized both while moving and meleeing. Terrain cost same as a swamp in rules if moving forward. If moving obliquely or moving sideways or wheeling, movement is cut in half. Note, Auxilii cohorts are not disorganized since they are Loose order. Cavalry moves forward at 1/2 movement. They may not move laterally. Unless a unit is 2" (Sighting distance) from a from a friendly flank, testing units' flanks are neutral for morale checks.

The Drainage Ditches: Units moving across ditches are disorganized. They move V2 the remaining movement for the turn if they cross in the middle of movement allowance. The following turn they move normally . There is a drainage ditch on either side of the via Posturniane Road: Since the Via Postumia is banked, a unit on the road is uphill from enemy.

Wooded Terrain is Scrub, vegetation with annoying amounts of brush and bushes, inter-spaced with trees. All Line, Cavalry, except skirmish move 2/3 speed. They are disorganized. LHI, skirmishers, are unaffected for movement and melee. Unless a unit is 2" (Sighting distance) from a from a friendly flank, testing units' flanks are neutral for morale checks.

The 50% Rule: If a unit has 50% or more of its lines in disruptive terrain the whole unit is disrupted.

Praetorian Morale:Since you never know what temper these guys are in, they start out as Elites, and just before they enter combat they roll on the chart below. (1D6)

1 Raw: "Too much partying in Rome! They want to go back there!"
2-3 Average: "What did you expect? Well drilled?"
    4-5 Vets: "They did drill!"
6 Elite: "They hate to lose"

Victory Conditions: If the Othoians can break 50% of the starting Legiones before the Vexillarii start entering, the Othoians win; otherwise it is who breaks who first.
