Showdown in Outland

At this point the characters have everything they need to battle Charybdis. However, due to the weight of the angelic weapon, they must come up with some creative way of destroying the demon with it. A few suggestions are provided below:

  • Tie the sword to a long metal pole and use it as a lance from horseback. The Parchuk brothers are happy to provide the characters with the necessary materials and a horse, and are even willing to help distract Chip while one of the brave characters comes galloping in to spear the monster.
  • Drop the sword on the demon from one of the silos, or the roof of the camp's building. The upside of this plan is that the weight of the sword will allow the blade to skewer Charybdis. The downside is that they could miss.
  • Dig a pit, fasten the sword to the bottom so that the blade points upward, and then somehow get Chip to fall in. Since the Parchuks never know when the demon is going to come out of the shed where he lives, digging the hole within the camp is just not an option. Luring Charybdis outside of the camp will be hard, but not impossible.
  • Overwhelm the demon, then stick it with the sword while its down. Nobody with an ounce of intelligence (such as the Parchuks and their bandits) wants to dogpile a demon. However dropping something heavy on Chip, or tangling him up in a net, may just buy the characters enough time to finish off the demon before it breaks free.

Whatever the case, a solid hit from Dianta's sword will kill the demon instantly.

The Parchuks will go along with any plan the characters think up so long as it is not obviously unworkable or likely to result in the deaths of many of their bandits. Anything which might put the brothers themselves at risk is out of the question, naturally.

When the the legions of Hell broke loose their battles with the forces of heaven were bloody indeed. Angel and demon alike fell as the two forces clashed, but in the end, both sides were recalled to their respective domains.

Charybdis was one of the few demons who chose to ignore Satan's call. A powerful demon lord, he had successfully cast down no less than three angels during the final days of war, his victories boosting his already tremendous arrogance to new heights. Instead of returning to hell, he chose to take up the mantle of a god in the world of the meek.

Unfortunately for him, however, his glory was short-lived. One of the angels he had slain was that loving friend of Dianta, an avenging warrior angel who chosen vengeance over the Paradise of Heaven. Sweeping down upon the demon, she fought with all the fury she could muster before being stuck down.

Charybdis was too strong to be overcome by the angel, but before he could render her senseless, she had driven her sword deep into his belly. Too late did the demon realize the terrible weakness of mortality, for with the Gates of Hell closed to him, he was powerless to heal the damage the holy artifact had wrought.

In his agony he revenged himself upon Dianta by crucifying her to a nearby boulder, then wandered off into the poisonous mists which at that time clouded the Alberta. Soon after, he came across Jim and David Parchuk, and used his remaining powers to create the anti-technological spell the brothers needed to acquire victlms for him.

Every moment Charybdis is in agony, and it takes the majority of his strength to just stay alive from day to day. This is the only reason that the characters have any chance of defeating him.
