Figures

by Lynn Bodin (unless noted)

The Italian firm of ESCI has added French Foreign Legion to their extensive range of 20mm soft plastic figures. The set is No. 237 and sells for $2,50, it contains 50 figures, almost all usable wargaming poses. Due out in August is a set of Moslem Warriors. I suspect that this is a 'generic' set of figures designed to be used as opponents for both the previously released 'Kyber Pass' set and the new French.

ESSEX have released the first of their 15mm Colonial figures. These are available from Wargames, in Triadelphia, WV, and sell for $2.19 per pack (6 foot, 3 std.). The first releases are for the Sudan, with sore in other areas promised. A reader in Britain, John Clements, was kind enough to send me a sample of the British Infantryman firing, and the detailing and sculpting is quite good, nearly as nice as Essex's 25mm Colonials. The scale of the 15mm figure is such closer to "industry" standard; this fellow measuring 14mm to the base of his helmet and 17mm to the top.

Richard Houston of LYZARD'S BRIM has released his 25mm 7-inch Armstrong Gun on Barbette Carriage, and it is, as expected, a magnificent piece. Though of limited Colonial application, I think everybody should have one or two for either some Egyptian or Chinese Forts which require an assault by a landing party. Also just out are similar pieces, but of an 8" Columbiad and an 8" Parrott Rifle. Of potentially more interest is a truely magnificent 25mm Chinese Wheelbarrow Mounted Gatling Gun! There are a lot of pieces with this item, but with some careful gluing and patient construction it builds up into a dynamite little conversation piece. The price is a bit high at $3.50, but considering the intricacy and uniqueness of the model, worth in my opinion, every penny. The order number is CL-88.

Jack Scruby and Chris Munro have put their collective heads together and produced a catalog of "Soldiers of the Colonial Wars." This listing includes recently remolded 30mm Cox figures (which nowadays fit in with any of the 'large" 25's on the market). See Jack's ad elsewhere in this issue on how to get a copy of this listing.

Finally, WARGAMES FOUNDRY has released a 25mm French Field Gun with crew for its Franco-Prussian Range. The cost is 2.95 Pounds (about $5.00) plus postage.
