Michael Barthorp's, THE ANGLO-BOER WARS, is now available in the U.S. for $19.95. The publisher is Blandford. The format is the same as Barthorp's previous Colonial Titles (WAR ON THE NILE, ZULU WAR, THE NORTH-WEST FRONTIER), with many saps and illustrations and a good narrative. Essential for any Colonial enthusiast's library. If you're a member of the Military Back Club, you can get a copy (order No. 110916) for $15.99.
The July releases from Osprey include the first of a series by Michael Barthorp on THE BRITISH ARMY ON CAMPAIGN 1816-1902. Volume One covers the years 1816-1853. I was waiting patiently for volumes Two and Three, which should be full of Colonial reference material!
I got a copy of Byron Farwell's THE GREAT WAR IN AFRICA (Norton, $18.95), and was a bit disappointed, but not TOO much. As expected, the bulk of the back covers East Africa, but there is good information also about Southwest Africa, Cameroon and Togoland.
I mentioned last issue the Osprey title on THE APACHES. I now have a copy and the Hooks (Jason and Richard) have produced another excellent book about American Indians. The artwork is superb, the black and white illustrations wellchosen and informative, and the text is easy to follow yet loaded with information. An excellent title!
