Prince Kraft zu Hohenlohe-Ingelfingen (Pallas Armata) Four volume booklet reprint of the thoughts of this officer (a Guard Corps gunner in the Prussian Army). The Prince has known a few things and seen even more and his views as to the use and importance of cavalry and practical and balanced. Unlike the Instant Expert of the Hobby the Prince recognises success includes both what you achieve and what you stop your opponent doing (which is sometimes harder to spot). His examples include the all-conquering Germans of 1870 and the Austrians of Custozza. He also considers whether the ACW model of cavalry raids should have been applied to the Franco-Prussian War (he concludes the wide ranging raid was not applicable where shallow raids were more effective given force density). Excellent book. More Book Reviews
