John Peddie for Sutton The beginnings of a strategic analysis of Hannibal's campaigns in Spain, Italy and Africa. Ultimately the book seems to lack rigour so that the issues were not as well analysed as they might have been. Peddie's belief seems to be that Hannibal was "winging it" for much of the time, and I think he makes a good argument here. Rome reminds me of the Royal Navy whose strategy is usually peerless even if the operational side could get a wee bit ropy. More Book Reviews
