Blight and Trade Cards

By John Barnard

BLIGHT

Blight is caused by war, chance events and poor administration. It applies to a Triban and cannot be transferred.

1. Blight is earned! due to war in the affected Triban.

1 battle = 1 blight doubled in civil wars
1 siege = 1 blight doubled in civil wars
1 turn of army occupation of Triban = 1 blight doubled for civil wars

2. Blights are neutralised at the rate of 1 blight per year per Triban.

3. Additional blights can be incurred due to:

    Poor administration
    Chance events
    Paying tribute

4. Blights can be further neutralised by:

    Good administration
    Trade cards
    Earned tribute

5. Any Triban ending the autumn phase with blight cannot raise reinforcements for armies or navies.

6. When a Triban suffers continued and increasing blight test as follows:

At 5 blights : 1D6, if 6 means Triban rebels and causes & each blight thereafter a civil war
At 10 blights : the Triban becomes desolated.

7. Desolated lose 1 unit off their army/navy value for each year they carry in excess of 10 units of blight.

TRADE CARDS

1. These can be earned by:

    Trade
    Chance events
    Receiving Tribute
    Conversion of Administrators

2. Administrators earn points through experience if they wish they can convert 5 points into 1 trade card at any time and can convert this into a unit or ship if they wish.

3. Trade cards can be used to raise additional units/ships. Where the extra units exceed the Triban unit/ship value, the additional units are deemed to be mercenaries. At the end of each year trade card created:

    Triban troops : remains.
Mercenaries : disperse and are lost.

4. Trade cards are banked in the capital Triban unless they are explicitly moved as a unit. The bank can only move as a whole.

5. Exceptional administrators can increase Triban unit values by 1 on throwing a 6 on a 1D6. They can do this for all their Tribans every five years.
