Valiant Miniatures

25mm ACW and Gunfighters

Reviewed by David Barnes

Available from 106 Foxcroft Drive, Wimborne, Dorset, BH21 2LA.

At the time of writing 15mm packs are £ 1.10 unless stated otherwise and contain 8 foot or 4 mounted. MGs 3 guns and crews. Command 8 foot or 4 mounted. 25mm singly at 50p each. UK and BFPO 10% order P&P, minimum 50p (Post free over £ 40).

Also available from this manufacturer is a design service for customers, i.e. 25mm.

    1. The cost is £ 15 per figure. For this fee the customer receives 15 figures to his design requirements.
    2. Payment is made in advance, but cheques will not be cashed prior to despatch of figures.
    3. The copyright is retained by Valiant Miniatures, but the figure will be made generally available through their catalogues at the normal price.
    4. The customer will need to supply sufficient information to allow Valiant to complete the figure, i.e. drawings, photographs, uniform details, etc. as well as the pose required. In the case of figures being required to scale with existing armies, then Valiant will need a sample of the figure already being used from the customer. Existing figures of other manufacturers will not be copied.

Future projects are filling existing ranges e.g. ACW, cavalry and command figures, WW2 weapon packs and a few more gunfighters. ANZACS for the Gallipoli range will probably be "out" by the time you read this.

Here we go then, 25mm ACW to begin:-

ACW Infantry

01 Priming, hat. Slouch hat, beard, gum blanket slung over left shoulder patched trousers. Full of character, good pose and detail. Excellent casting.

04 Getting cartridge, kepi. Reaching into his cartridge pouch, behind his right hip. Musket held at the point of balance in left hand. Bayonet fixed, slung blanket, copper cap pouch on front right of his belt; so may be a rifled musket. Another convincing pose.

06 Running, kepi. Rammer up by his right ear, beard, patched trews. A veteran look about him.

>Artillerymen in shirtsleeve order

32 Sighting gun, bareheaded. Shading his eyes with his left hand, squinting down the barrel. Right hand on his knee.

36 With Sponge, bareheaded. Leaning back, left hand over that ear. "Mutton chop" whiskers. More please!

Gunfighters

Slim fellows but well in keeping with the era and excellently animated and cast.

GUN02 Running firing, hat and beard. Mutton chop whiskers actually. Tied down holster, jacket flying, very good pose.

GUN03 Standing firing. Lantern jaw - leaning into the shot. Well animated.

GUN05 Shot gun George. Bootlace tie, hat, moustache and goatee beard, frockcoat. Another candidate for the OK Corral! Ugly customer.

GUN07 Saloon girl, cigarette. Hand on hip, hair up - low bodice and bustle without the gown. Silence is golden!
