The History of England, Vols. II & III, by Dr. Goldsmith, Rev. Isaac Sloper & Thomas Bartlett, pub. The History of England, Vol. III, by David Hume, T. Smollett M.D., William Jones and George Dean Wilson, pub. James Semple, Glasgow 1874, this volume covers the period 1757-1873, details of the naval campaigns in the West Indies are quite helpful, while all of the above subjects are covered too. A New and Universal Geographical Grammar or, A Complete System of Geography, Vol. II, by E. Jones, pub. G. Robinson, London 1772, pp.496, a most interesting work with pages 311-438 dealing with South & Central America and the islands of the West Indies, pages 251-311 deal with British North America, these five works would be ideal to reprint in El Dorado or as booklets sometime in the future, if and when I get time. Bonanza Books, New York 1969, pp.125, illustrated, a good guide for me on artillery in America 1689-1865 which is not a strong point for me. British Military Firearms 1650-1850, by Howard L. Blackmore, pub. Herbert Jenkins, London 1961, pp.286, illustrated, often quoted for its details of the Brown Bess and Baker Rifle for the Mexican troops of 1835. The Greenhill Military Small Arms Data Book, 1870-2000, by Ian V. Hogg, pub. Historical Register and Dictionary of the United States Army; From its Organization, September 29, 1789 to March 2, 1903, Vol. II, by Francis B. Heitman, pub. Government Printing Office, Washington 1903, pp.626, some very good data/listings on the U.S.-Mexican and Spanish-American Wars, i.e. listings of officers, Regular and Volunteers, killed or wounded in action, alas volume one was not available, looks like something else for me to type up. Latin American Revolutionaries: Groups, Goals, Methods, by Michael Radu & Vladimir Tismaneanu, pub. Pergamon-Brassey’s, New York 1990, pp.373, covers the period from the end of the Cuban Revolution up to 1990, a good reference work which helps define the many groups in this region. Journal of Researches during the Voyage of H.M.S. Beagle, by Charles Darwin, pub. Collin’s Clear-Type Press, London 1900, pp.495, illustrated, bought this work because it was not an abridged edition as later ones usually are, sections on Brazil, Argentina and Chile during the 1830’s are of help. Many thanks to all who helped me buy or sent me these titles, they are Paul V. Walsh, Gérard Mignard, David Prando, Bob Scheina, Jürg Meister and the Texas University Press. Book List
