The Society, which has a world wide membership, was founded over 20 years ago with the aim of promoting Naval Wargaming, and acting as a forum for the exchange of information and ideas for the development of the hobby. To this end, we produce a 32 page magazine entitled "BATTLEFLEET", which appears every 3 to 5 months, depending upon the flow of articles from the members. It is our policy at present to produce a magazine of consistent size rather than try to stick to a regular schedule. Membership of the Society is by subscription to BATTLEFLEET, and is based upon a four issue volume of the magazine rather than a fixed time, thus a subscription period can vary between about 12 and 20 months. Members joining port way through a subscription period receive all back issues of the current volume. As well as featured articles covering 411 periods and aspects of Naval Wargaming, the magazine also includes model news & reviews, and news of meetings and other events likely to be of interest. Members' advertisements for models, books or other items wanted or for sale are included in the magazine free of charge. An additional benefit of Membership is the 10% discount on the purchase of 1/1250 ship models from David Vanner and on Clydeside 1/1200 and SkytrexTriton 1/1250 ship models. The Society is of course non-profit, making in that all income is devoted solely to the expenses of running the Society and producing and distributing the magazine. We hold regular meetings on the second Sunday of each month in a hall in Wallington for Members in the South East of England, and groups of Members elsewhere also hold local meetings. All these meetings are on a self-financing basis, and are not subsidised by the membership subscriptions.
