Essex Miniatures has released a substantial line of Late Medieval 25MM figures that should add a new dimension of quality to any medieval wargamer's collection. These figures are designed to specifications described in WRG Armies Lists, Book #3; they are arranged 3 infantry orl mounted figure to a pack all with different armor and weapons within a standard group. Knights and Men-at-Arms are organized at frequent intervals beginning in 1370 and ending in 1475, enabling wargamers to build armies that are chronologically compatible. Figures are on the larger size for this scale, but should fit fairly well with similar figures distributed by Citadel. As expected, sculpting is quite detailed thereby enabling experienced painters to produce miniature masterpieces. Beginners should also do well with this range as the sculpting itself adds an aura of detail that their skill with a brush may currently miss. Sample figures contained no flash. Human figuresseemed anatomically correct though tending to the stocky side. Horses were proportionately large enough to match appearances. Comparisons in some figures, however, reduce this discrepancy. Poses tend to lack animation, especially in the mounted figures. It seems that the mounted arm is waiting in reserve whilethe more active foot figures are carrying on with the battle. Essex might well consider adding some galloping horsesto the "walkers" and "trotters" already produced. A numerical rating for the series includes:
