review by Dick Bryant
NOVA has sent us a review copy of their latest release in the ACE OF ACES 1:1 air combat book game line, "Flying Machines". The planes illustrated are the allied Airco DH 2 and the German Fokker E III. These early craft helped spawn the first Aces of World War I. The publication of "Flying Machines" rounds out the ACE OF ACES line started with the "Handy Rotary Series" and continued with the "Powerhouse Series". The DH 2 has a swivel mount gun which allows shots to the sides as well as out the front of the plane. The DH 2 is also a "pusher" plane, having the engine in the middle of the plane and the pilot sitting forward of the wings. This gives a different feel to f lying and scoring that players of the other ACE OF ACES 0 games will notice immediately. ACE OF ACES ~ "Flying Machines" retails for $16.95 and as with the "Handy Rotary" and "Powerhouse" book sets, is entirely compatible with the other games. A real challenge is flying two DH 2 "pushers" versus a single experienced German "Rotary" player. A great game system highly recommended More Reviews
