Dixon

25mm ACW

by Paul Koch

Dixon is a long established British manufacturer with extensive ranges of ancients and a growing list of Napoleonics. These are the first of their offerings I have seen for the late unpleasantness between the states. The three samples on which I base this review are ACW176, Infantry loading; 179, Drummer in overcoat; and 188, Officer with sword.

All the figures are true to the Dixon styling technique. That is, they offer generous undercuts and facial detail which will ease the dry brush technique of painting, with the heads a little on the larger size.

The drummer is fairly proportioned but his arms are tight to the torso, while the drum is very well done.

By far the best figure is the officer. He has a good lifelike appearance. The detailing is excellent, and like all Dixon fig ures there is no flash to speak of at all.

For those who are fans of the Dixon style, these are excellent figures. For those who are not, but collect 25s, give this range a look. There will be some that will fit nicely with other fig ures.

While British made, the figures are available in this country from the good people at WARGAMES. They are well known for their courtesy and good, prompt service.
