Adventure

25mm Ancients

by John Boehm

These figures were designed by Lance Runolfsson and measure 26H(Barrett Measure). They are cast without spears and javelins with open hands, the purchaser being left to supply wire weapons. The designer notes that he does not model side arms onto figures unless already hand held, which he says will save painting time. The figures received included a Republican Roman (RR2) with mail, pilurn and crested and plumed helm; a penal legionary (RR11) with Gallic helm, sword and long Gallic shield advancing; an Imperial Roman signifier with wolf headdress, mail armor and shield(IR3); and a Western Roman bowman (IR5) with short mail corselet, reaching for an arrow over his shoulder.

The range of these figures is most impressive including Greeks and Persians, Skythinas, Later Persians, Macedonians, and Hellinistics, Carthegenians, Italians, Spanish, Numidians, Republican Romans, Imperial Romans, Late Romans, Gauls. Germans, Sassanid Persians, some miscellaneous figures including cataphracts, ox carts, etc., as well as 100 Years War figures, ACW and Victorian period figures, and Dervishes. In particular from an anceint standpoint, there is a interesting selection of Italians, Skythians, and Spanish which are often not available elsewhere. Elephants, camels, and a variety of horses are available as well. Infantry and riders are $.65 a figure, horses and camels are $75 per figure and elephants start at $2.50 with additional cost per tower and figures. For every $100 ordered an additional $10 worth of figures may be chosen free. This is an impressive range of figures, but be careful how they may fit in with less hefty figures.
