This booklet of WWII miniatures, by Brian Blume, is also published by Tactical Studies Rules and, as the sub-title says, is "for mass-armor battles of WWII with small-scale miniature figures." Specifically these rules are for use with 1:200, 1:285 or 1:300 scale models. It is a 5 1/2 x 8 1/2" booklet with 28 pages plus covers, not so profusely illustrated as most TSR booklets. 1 model represents 1 platoon (about 50 infantry, 5 vehicles or 4 guns), 1" = 250'(1 foot = 1,000 yards) and 1 turn - 2 minutes of real time. Simultaneous movement, with written orders is used. For large battles "platoons" are grouped into company- or battalion-sized units which must stick together, and thus receive common orders and targets. Firing is measured from unit to unit and losses taken in individual models, Armor-piercing, high explosive, smoke and infantry fire are all covered. In AP fire the following factors influence the outcome: Type-of guns firing, range (6" increments), target's armor (10 categories) and the area facing the firing unit (front, flank or rear). In HE fire: type of guns firing, type of target (5 categories), and whether direct or indirect fire - and if the latter, the number of consecutive turns firing at the same target. In infantry fire: the nationality of the firing unit, whether firing small arms, AP, or HE and range (2" increments for small arms, and AP - with just 2 ranges for the latter - and 4 categories for HE) Separate infantry fire figures are given for engineers, and heavy machine guns and for tank machine guns. Charts in the booklet give all the necessary data for most of the major armored vehicles, anti-tank guns, mortars and field artillery of Germany, Russia, the USA, France, Britain and Italy. All in all a nice set of rules for the type of battles made possible by the small scale models, such as GHQ MicroArmour. The price is $4.00, TSR's 2nd lowest, and is available from the publisher some (better) hobby shops or from PANZERFAUST. More Reviews
