Minifig 25mm Alexander Nevsky Teutonic Knights
Der Kriegspielers 25mm American Revolution

by Don Lowry

A recent addition to the extensive variety of minatures from Miniature Figurines Ltd is their line of 25M "Alexander Nevsky" figures - a truly magnificent line of Teutonic knights and their Russian opponents. These figures are virtually flash free and excellent in design and,in casting - on a par with their beautiful English Civil War figures. Minifigs uses the best alloy for miniatures I've yet seen: pliable yet very smooth and so strong that even the very long lances on some of these figures stand as straight as rulers. Minifigs have also added quite a few new numbers to their Middle Earth 25mm fantasy line (see PF 61) including a giant spider (about the size of a real tarantula) that is suitably hideous. And they have revised their Rohan Lancer figure adding a helmet putting the hair in braids, lengthening the chainmail shirt, and removing the boss from the shield - making it match more closely the descriptions in LOTR.

The latest thing from Der Kriegspielers (or Custom Cast) seems to be their "Continentals" - a line fo 25mm American Revolution figures. Der Ks are certainly improving with experience, as these are truly excellent castings, almost as good as the best of Minifigs!

In fact, I would say that only their slightly inferior alloy makes it necessary to say "almost". Der Ks have also greatly expanded their "fantastiques" line of 25mm fantasy figures (see PF 66) with such things as Uruk-hai Orcs in several poses, various goblins including warg-riders, and hill trolls, wood trolls and cave trolls - there is a great list of others but I'm not sure how many are available now and how many are coming later, All of these miniatures, and a great many others, plus 54mm and larger scales, plastic kits, rule books, magazines, and board games are all available from "The Command Post" at 4688; Convoy St. San Diego CA 92111 - a very nice, friendly shop specializing in things for wargamers and military history buffs and collectors - or perhaps from a hobby shop in your area.
