For each target hex, the number of artillery factors firing is read across the top, and the Die is rolled for each unit in the attacked hex. The result is found in the column below the number of factors firing. If four units occupy an attacked hex, then the die would be rolled FOUR times, and the results on each unit could be different; conceiveably, some units could be wholly eliminated while others were uneffected. The results have the following meanings:
"e" - the effected unit is ERASED and is removed from the board; "de" - treat as a "d" unless the optional results are being used, in which case the unit is DECIMATED and is replaced with an appropriate weaker unit (which is in good order). NOTE: A DEMORALIZED Artillery unit may not employ counter-battery fire. ADDITIONAL INFANTRY ASSAULT CASES An "R" result signifies a ROUT, this means that all the defending units are removed and the attacker suffers no losses; also, the attacking units then have 4 mvmt. points with which to move and initiate another attack; should this attack also result in a ROUT, the attacking units have an additional 2 mvmt. points, but may not initiate another attack, Whenever a unit is SURROUNDED by units that are all attacking it, the battle is resolved on the DEFENDER DEMORALIZED Table, Whenever a unit is considered to be DEMORALIZED more than once, i.e., a Demoralized unit that is surrounded or is being attacked by Flamethrowers, 2 is deducted from the INFANTRY ASSAULT die roll for each additional Demralizing condition. Demoralization has no effect on Artillery Shell Table results. STACKING LIMITS Plain Terrain 6 units
