The player with Air Superiority has no observation difficulties; the player without air superiority must trace a Line of Sight from the firing Artillery unit, to an undemoralized observing unit and thence to the target. This LOS may pass through slope hex sides in one direction only, that is up or down but not over a hill. The LOS may be traced across one ravine only. Each LOS is separate (one to the observer, another to the target), and the Artillery unit may of course trace it's own LOS. Units unable to trace this LOS have their factors dropped one column on the Arty Shell Table, i.e., 8 factors would have the effect of 6, etc. before any further adjustments for protection. The Germans have air superiority until March 11, and the French have Air Superiority from the 11th until the 23rd, the Germans then have it until the end of the game. More Verdun Game Variants
