Regional News: UK

by Jim Purky

4. Philip Mackie sent me a copy of the newsletter that he sends to all the UK members of the SYWA. If you reside in Europe and wish to receive a copy of this informative newsletter, then please write to Philip at 30 Penn Hill Avenue, Lower Parkstone, Poole, Dorset BH14 9LZ Philip deserves a "Pour le Merite" for all the help and effort he gives to promoting the SYWA in the UK.

5. The Bath Wargames Club held a SYW pairs competition at their annual Challenger convention on March 27 and 28, 1993. There were 18 two-player teams entered in this year's competition, which included six SYWA members. Players used WRG 1685-1845 Rules and 2200 point armies. Each team played four games of approximately three and a half hours over the weekend. A similar event is tentatively planned in Blackpool during 1994.

6. Don McHugh, on behalf of the Bath Wargames Club, organised a re-fight of Vellinghausen during the early part of March 1993. This was an impressive game using an L-shaped table, the greater part of which was 4 feet deep and 6 feet at the widest part, with a length of 24 feet. There were over 3,000 15mm figures on the table. The outcome was that the French broke through the British deployment and severed the lines of communication, although not without considerable loss to themselves.

7. Philip Mackie reports that he is looking for information about the Swedish Army in Pomerania during the SYW. If anyone has any uniform and flag information, orders of battle, campaign accounts, or any other historical anecdotes relating to the PrussianSwedish conflict, then please forward the same to Philip at the address provided in item #4 above. While you are at, why not submit an article about the Swedes to the SYWA Journal.
