8. I have been doing some research on Colonial Williamsburg and it occured to me that this would be a wonderful venue for an East Coast SYW convention. We could hold the event at a Holiday Inn -style hotel and arrange for a group banquet at one of the operating historical taverns. This is just an idea, not a commitment on my part to organize an Eastern SYW convention. Is there a "man on horseback": out there who would be interested in organizing such an event? 9. Tod Kershner, Bruce McFarland and Jim Purky hosted SYW-related wargames at HISTORICON 1993, held in Lancaster,PA last July 1993. Christopher Duffy was the featured speaker, with lectures on the tactics of Frederick the Great and the Battle of Borodino. Both lectures were given to standing room -only crowds and were accompanied by color slides and maps. The SYWA and Soldiers & Swords Miniatures hosted a reception for Professor Duffy on thursday night. Afterwords, a dozen members escorted Duffy to dinner at a local Amish Restaurant. Kudos go to Ken Bunger for his excellent choice in restaurants--it was akin to having a Thanksgiving Day dinner in July. Thanks also to Rob Chellis, of Soldiers & Swords and his crew for providing the liquid refreshments at the reception, and to Bob Coggins for his help in planning the reception with the hotel staff. 7YWA Newsletter
