10. Practical Wargamer (Sept-October 1993 Issue) This month's issue is an "18th Century Special Issue" and features articles on Minden, Lobositz, a solo-scenario for Braddock's defeat, a number of French & Indian War scenarios and an article by Charles Grant on the attractions of SYW wargaming. As usual, editor and SYWA member Stuart Asquith has done a fine job of presenting the period in its best light with interesting articles and numerous color pictures of SYW miniatures. 11. 18th Century Highlanders by Stuart Reid and color plates by Mike Chappell is a new addition to the Osprey Men-At-Arms series that should be of interest to all SYW enthusiasts. The book covers all the Highland Regiments in British service from 1730 through 1800, including Kieth's and Campbell's Highlanders of the SYW era, among others. This is chock full of information that up until now has been hard to find and is executed in the usual fine Osprey format. Priced at $11.95, a copy should be available at most hobby and military history book stores. 12. The Banner is an in-house publication printed by Soldiers & Swords, 40 Jarvis St. , Binghamton, NY 13905. Issue #4 switches from a newsprint tabloid style to magazine format with glossy paper and color pictures.Subscriptions are $18.00 per year or $3.50 per issue. S & S produces a line of 15mm American Revolution figures and is the US distributor for Matchlock Miniatures. The current issue features articles on Guilford Courthouse, the French & Indian War and numerous color pictures of their miniatures and some re- enactment events. A nice, professional looking publication that deserves your attention. 13. The Emperor's Headquarters 5744 W. Irving Park Rd., Chicago, IL 60634 (PH: 312-777-7307) EHQ now stocks the line of historical prints from "Cranston Fine Arts Prints" of England. Most of these are famous prints that frequently grace the history books such as "Isandlhwhana", "The Thin Red Line" and assorted Detaille Napoleonic prints. Of particular interest to SYWA members is a large print of the Philippoteaux painting of the "Battle of Fontenoy".It costs $50.00 and measures 23"high by 33" wide. It depicts the famous salute between the French and British Guards, but is unusual in that it depicts the scene from the French side of the battleline. Excellent uniform detail on the French Guards, includes file closers straightening out the rear line with their spontoons. This is a beautiful print and it is reasonable priced. I also found a print titled "Charge of the Inniskilling Dragoons at Tolnoy". It appears to be mid-18th Century, but I've never heard of this battle. Can anyone identify this encounter? I also discovered a number of interesting paperback books from Heritage Press, including Reminiscences of the French Wars, Robert Rodgers Journal @ $22.50; The Virginia Frontier 1754 - 1763 by Louis Koontz @ $17.50; and Memoirs of a French & Indian War Soldier "Jolicoeur" Charles Bonin @ $17.00. Finally, in hardback, I found a copy of British Light Infantry In The 18th Century by Col. JFC Fuller (reprint) @ $50.00. This is just a small sampling of SYW period books in stock. Give EHQ a phone call for more information on these and other books. 7YWA Newsletter
