1757: Advance Astride the Neisse

Part 6: September 15, 1757

The main body of the Prussian Army remains at Bunzlau, but it has made a detachment of eight battalions who have taken the road to Liegnitz. On our side, His Royal Highness has advanced the Corps of Grenadiers commanded by General Sprecher to support General Nadasdy and to prevent those eight Prussian battalions from entering Schweidnitz. The light troops have been harassing the Prussian march and have been under cannon fire as a result.

His Royal Highness rode out this morning to see the Corps of Nadasdy and to examine the position of its camp.

When he returned to his Headquarters, Prince Charles received a courier who had left the Army of the Prince de Soubise on the 7th. This courier reported that the French Army and the Army of the Empire had joined forces that day at Erfurt. Having sent their heavy baggage to the rear, that combined force was preparing to march the following day against the King of Prussia.

Intelligence from Dresden states that the garrison is much reduced - there are said to be no more than 3 battalions. The flour and other provisions are being sent back from that town to Torgau and the materials that had, until now, been in the arsenal have been put on board ships. All the iron cannon have been withdrawn from the ramparts.

The army is under orders to be ready to march tomorrow to make camp at Pilgramsdorf near Goldberg.
