Journal of Horace St. Paul
1757: Waiting on Events

July 28, 1757

Translated and Edited With Additional Materials By Neil Cogswell

In order to facilitate the feeding of his army and to spare Lusatia, His Royal Highness Prince Charles of Lorraine is not only drawing a great part of his supplies from Bohemia but, through his detachments, he has again made intimations to the inhabitants of Silesia, pressurizing them to send him deliveries.

The Prussian army is now behind Bautzen; it has an advanced post at Hochkirch. The army received the order to hold itself ready to march. A part of the Reserve Corps is destined to go to Silesia in order to accelerate the deliveries of forage.

The two Princes of Saxony, Xaver and Carl, have given 200 ducats to the poor inhabitants of Zittau, who find themselves in the greatest misery.

Three soldiers have been hung for disobeying the orders given for the prevention of pillaging. 57 deserters arrived at Headquarters.

A new Order of Battle has been published today.
