Association of Friends of the Waterloo Committee Study Weekend

The Association Study weekend has become an established event in this organisation’s annual programme, and this course will take place at Higham Hall, Bassenthwaite in the Lake District from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th March 2005. The principal speaker will be Ian Fletcher, talking about some of the key actions at the Battle of Waterloo, including the role of the British cavalry and the defence of Hougoumont.

Paul Brunyee will speak on Napoleon on St.Helena, Lt. Col. John Downham will talk on life immediately after the battle for various regiments, John Cruickshank on the awards given to soldiers for their gallantry in the wars, and Mick Crumplin will examine the treatment of the injured after the battle.

I have been on one of these weekends before and thoroughly enjoyed it. The speakers were excellent, the venue very comfortable, and the company good. If you would like further details of this course and membership of the Association (which is only £12 per year, buying you three journals, regular meetings and organised visits), contact the Honorary Secretary, John S. White, 23a Wylde Green Road, Sutton Coldfield, B72 1HD. Email: hw8691@blueyonder.co.uk
