Two special one-day conferences will be held to commemorate the Bicentenary of the Spithead and Nore naval mutinies of 1797. The first event will be held at Portsmouth on Saturday 19 April 1997, beginning at 10.00am, at the Royal Naval Museum. Speakers will include Roger Morriss on Crew Management and Mutiny, the case of La Minerve, 1796-1802; David Wilson on Civilian Reaction in Portsmouth to the Spithead Mutiny; Ann Coates on The Delegates: A Radical Tradition. The cost is 10 pounds (5 pounds concessions) if paying before the end of February 1997. After this date the cost is 12 pounds (7 pounds concessions). The second conference will be held at Chatham Historic Dockyard on Saturday 5 July, beginning at 10.00am. The cost is the same as for the Portsmouth event. Speakers will include: Brian Lavery on Lower Deck Life in the Revolutionary Wars; Philip MacDougall on Reporting the Nore Mutiny in the Kentish Press; and Jonathan Neale on Naval Discipline.
