First game with my Seven Year War miniatures. I have enough to play the introductory game of the Osprey Honours of War wargame rules, from Keith Flint.
A prussian advance column is ordered to take the bridge along the Schwartz river. The bridge is defended by a smaller Saxon column. The Saxons are already deployed in defence, with an artillery unit on the hill behind the river which is able to hit units on most of the battlefield.
The scenario is taken from the introductory game, just one light infantry units was added per side.Th first move sees the prussian column stuck in the village, not moving because its is out of command. The infantry brigade is split and I decided to move the two battalions on the right of the village. These columns are under command, planning an advance in column..The Saxons cuirassiers keep the ground on the right flank. The Saxon brigade is ready to react to the first prussian moveThe prussians manage a double move towards the enemy, which is still far away, but no out of battalion gun range. The unit on the right gets an horrible toll of three hits. But the Saxon commander manages to inspire his brigade to advance at double pace and charges. The Prussians fire a good volley which does not stop the Saxons. The Saxon right flank and the Prussian left flank do not move. The Saxon charge is successful on the Prussian battalion that got heavy musket fire in the previous move, while the second prussian battalion keeps the ground. Both Saxon units retreat due to heavy losses. The Prussian dragoon on the left decide to advance to attack the Saxon infantry. The prussian battalion keeps advancing and manages to make a double move and charge the retreating Saxons, routing them, but the outstanding Saxon commander manages to rally the second battalion which then fires at close range and routs the second Prussian battalion. On the lefthand side the Dragoons take some hits from the light infantry, then charge the Curassiers which in the meanwhile have advanced. They loose the melee and rout. Battle is lost for the Prussians, with some infantry and artillery which did not manage to come out of the village. Beer was too good in the village inn!
Game went smoothly and quickly, with few units per side. The rules are quite fun and may be played with probably up to 10-15 units per side. Luca won the game 🙁 bravo!
