GHQ's 10mm Rebellion Range
Pharaoh's Arms 10mm

American Civil War Figures

reviewed by Mike Gilbert
(an old CS re-enactor and gamer about town)

A quick review of 10 mm ACW figures available by GHQ, 28100 Woodside Rd., Shorewood, Minn. 55331 and Pharaoh,s Arrns (Chariot Miniatures) David Jackson, P.O. Box 32, MunsterHamlet, Ontario, Canada KOA 3PO.

Along with the 6 mm Adler range, these are two of the finest designed ranges available. GHQ figures are well cast and come in packs at $5.95. They have the quality that one expects in the MicroArmor line - a clean cast, very flexible "lead" and very thin swords and bayonets. The Infantry comes in packs of 24 with 3 command (27) and 4 different poses. There are 4 types of infantry and in all cases they are all equipped with just canteen and cartridge box. (Shed other items pre-battle? -- Another reason I want a casting of regimental equipment dumps, caused looting problems in some battles.)

GHQ figures are a bit stiff in the Cav. Dept - formal reserve pose and the infantry is in variations of advance at port. On the other hand the artillery guns and crews are some of the best modeled and animated figures I've ever seen at any scale. Artillery comes at 2 guns and crew with all kinds of extra barrels for 4 types of guns. Command packs come with lots of extra flags and the officers are great.

An extra bargain are cast wood and stone fences. Very nice and with small spikes on the bottom from anchoring into your styrofoam tabletop.

Pharaoh's Arm's figures are 12 inf, 6 cav, or 3 guns per pack at $3.15 Canadian. (I sent the full amount in US dollars and David sent extra stuff.) These are great and will mix well with the GHQ and are best described as clean animated Old Glory style figures, lots of clean detail. Drawbacks are they don't cast flags (sigh), all else is great (you can see the trimming on the cav's jacket in proper scale). There are now (Dec.) over 30 packs available including wrecked batteries and dead. My recommendation on both these ranges is that I buy some even when I get free samples -- you can't resist this stuff.

The last request I'd make is: "Hey, where are the limbers, cessions and wagons?"
