Weapons and Armor
of the Undead

Part II

Randamus

by Lloyd Brown

The Undead: As a youth, blonde-haired, blue eyed Randamus was an exuberant priest of a fertility cult that taught that it was his duty to do much as possible to increase the size of the human race by fathering children. Since many single women can have more children than one wife, be refused to get married. At any given time, he could be found explaining his simple philosophy to those maidens in the area who were unfamiliar with the small religion. Only because of his (honest!) sincerity was he able to have any success.

Before long there were a dozen little platinum blonde children running around with single mothers, flabbergasting the other priesthood's and angering many of the local young men. Randamus loved to be around his children, and played with them whenever his duties allowed (which was pretty often since he considered this a duty, too). Partly because of Randamus' effervescence and naivety, the women all got along well with each other. The were one BIG family.

Then a series of accidents left many of the children or their mothers injured, sick or hurt. At the same time, Randamus' ability to pay for food and clothing decreased as his religion lost popularity. The various mothers of his children pleaded to their own gods for help. They answered. The harsh gods found the priest at fault. They killed Randamus and made him into an undead, unable to come near the cities and life that he loved so much.

Now Randamus is a skeleton warrior, using his new skill at arms to spitefully slay those who disturb the privacy he hates so much. Still not completely cowed, however, he takes pretty pieces of jewelry he comes by as a gift to a banshee who shares the desolate area he calls home. She has been there for ages and has long since killed off even the plants and fungi, leaving nothing but stone and ash. They tried to kill each other when they first met, but have since come to a truce and deal with their forced loneliness by spending time together.

The Armor: The main engine of his curse is Randamus' platemail +2 which has additional powers bestowed on it since his life was taken away. The armor alerts Randamus to the presence of living things within 30 yards. When they are within sight, it points out the highest HD creature by casting a faerie fire spell on that creature. The armor constantly radiates bitter cold within five yards, causing d4 points of damage per round. He is unable to take off this armor or negate its effects.
