One of the first sights upon entering the museum is a case holding typical arms and armour of 1607-era colonists.
Next up is a War of 1812 Massachusetts State Militia uniform, circa 1808-12. Depicted is an officer's jacket for social events, not battle--well, perhaps battle of another sort. It is cut short in front with long tails in the back.
This is a summer dress shell jecket worn by Lt. J. McAdam during the Mexican-American War. Made of linen, it has a nine-button front with two pockets, cut short. At almost 200 years old, the color may have faded a bit, as it looked more or less a dirty tan color than a fresh off-white. More Fort Benning
