Augustine Moore House

We temporarily skipped the rest of the battlefield in order to go to the Moore House, which closes at 4:30pm. We arrived at 4:15.

Here, on October 18, officers from both sides met to discuss surrender terms.

This two-story house offers period furniture in the rooms, set up as it was that October day. Downstairs were the meeting rooms and upstairs were the bedrooms.

The sign says:

    "The battlefield was quiet October 18, 1781 under temporary truce. That day two Allied commissioners met with two British and drafted the terms of surrender. They met in this house, not restored and refurnished. It was then the home of Augustine Moore, merchant of Yorktown."
