This section provides a summary of the dynasties which dominated Burma during specific periods of time. I have also noted as to which ethnic group the rulers belonged. During some years there are more than one strong rival city-states competing to control the region. Pre-800 AD…Vikrama dynasty of Pyu people established at Prome 1044-1287…..Anawratha dynasty of Burmans centered on Pagan. Aka Pagan Dynasty. 1312-1364…..Kingdom of Pinya. One of the early Shan successor city-states 1312-1364…..Kingdom of Sagaing. One of the early Shan successor city-states 1364-1555….Ava Dynasty. Considered a coalition dynasty between the Shan and Burmans from 1364 until 1426. From 1426-1527 it was considered a Burman dynasty. Then from 1527 until 1555 the rulers were a series of Shan chiefs. 1287- 1539…Honswadi Dynasty. Aka Hanthawaddy Dynasty. This dynasty was based at Pegu . It was dominated by Talaings. The capital shifted from Martaban to Pegu. 1486-1752….Toungoo Dynasty. A Burman dynasty. 1752-1885….Alaungpaya Dynasty. A Burman dynasty. The capitals shifted from Shwebo, Ava and Amarpura.
