1540 Chickasaw vs Spanish. Chickasaw attack the DeSoto expedition at a river crossing 1541 Chickasaw + Spanish vs Chakchiuma. DeSoto sent 30 cavalry and 80 infantry with the Chickasaw warparty. Village empty. 1541 Chickasaw vs Spanish. In March the Spanish demanded 200 women from the Chickasaw. The Chickasaw refused and attacked. The Chickasaw used clays pots filled with hot coals to burn the Spanish cabins. The Spanish were defeated and had to flee their encampment. 1682 Quinipissa vs La Salle's French Expedition 1686-96 SLAVE Raids: Chickasaw raiders vs Acolapissa towns 1686-1760 QUAPAW WAR. Chickasaw vs Quapaw. Fought in the Mississippi River area up to the Arkansas River (mainly in NE Arkansas). Skirmishes had occurred prior to 1686. For many years the fights were over slaves rather than hunting grounds. The Quapaw contributed warriors to the French expeditions during the Chickasaw War. 1698 Quapaw warparty with 30 guns vs Chepoussa + Michigama warparty in NE Ark 1699 Acolapissa vs Chickasaw warparty with British traders 1698-1700 SLAVE Raids: Chickasaw raiders vs Tunica towns Taensa vs Bayougoula Taensa vs Chitimacha 1700-33 Chickasaw vs Choctaw. It is reported that the Chickasaw killed and captured between 3000-4000 Choctaws during just the first three years. 1702 LOVE Raids : French + Acolapissa + Natchitoches vs Chitimacha. The French asked for aid to obtain women for the settlers at their outposts. 1706 Chickasaw divided into pro-British and Pro-French factions. Eventually the pro-British faction would regain control. 1706 Natchez vs French 1706 Taensa vs Chitimacha + Chitto 1706 Tunica vs Houma 1707-18 LOVE Raids : French + Acolapissa + Houma vs Chitimacha (defeated) 1708 Houma vs Tunica 1713 LOVE Raids : Acolapissa vs Natchitoches 1713 Chickasaw + Yazoo + Natchez vs Chawasha 1729-31 NATCHEZ WAR : French vs Natchez + Yazoo . The Natchez had been provided muskets by the Chickasaw and encourage the Black slaves in Louisiana to revolt. The French adopted a policy of tribal extermination. Early battles included Ft Rosaile, Ft St Peter and Ft Pierre. French allied nations included the Tunica, Houma, Acolapissa, Bayougoula, Natchitoches and the Choctaw (1500 warriors total). French expedition of Black slaves attacked a Chawasha/Chitimacha village 1729-31 Choctaw + Chakchiuma vs Natchez 1731 Tunica vs Natchez + Koroa + Tiou. Natchez led counter-attack on French allies 1731 French + Caddo/Natchitoches vs Natchez. The defeated Natchez sought refuge with the Chickasaw and continued to raid pro-French tribes. 1731-52 CHICKASAW WAR. Chickasaw vs France + Native allies from the region and even Canada. The Chickasaw were victorious at Choccolissa (3-25-1736), Ackia (4-1736), Celeron Expedition (1739) and Ackia (1752).The Chickasaw allies included refugee Natchez, Koroa, Tiou and Yazoo. The Yazoo, Tiou and Koroa were defeated by the Quapaw during the war. See the battles section for more information on specific battles. 1731-32 Chickasaw vs Detroit/Illinois + Wasbash. Pro-French tribes from the north were asked to raid the Chickasaw. During 1732 Chickasaw raided into Illinois and Indiana. 1733 Chickasaw treaty with the northern Choctaw. 1739 Choctaw Mico Red Shoe of the eastern Choctaw tribes signs a peace treaty with the Chickasaw. 1745 Chickasaw + Tsalagi vs Shawnee. Expedition against Shawnee raiders in the Cumberland Valley area of Tennessee. 1747-50 Choctaw Civil War. Pro-British forces under Red Shoe revolted. Red Shoe was killed which ended the civil war AND the peace treaty with the Chickasaw. 1750 Chickasaw + Tsalagi vs Choctaw. 1752 Final major French Expedition against the Chickasaw. It failed. 1758-69 CHICKASAW-TSALAGI WAR. Fought over the control of northern Alabama. the Chickasaw won the war with a victory at Oldfields. 1764 Choctaw + Tunica vs British. A British expedition on the Mississippi River was attacked. 1765 Choctaw + Tunica vs British + Chickasaw. Another British expedition visited the Mississippi River with a Chickasaw escort. 1765 Chickasaw sign a peace treaty with Illinois. A similar treaty was signed with the Choctaw. These allowed the Chickasaw to concentrate their forces against the Tsalagi. 1765 Many of the depleted pro-French nations including the Alibumu +Coushatta + Mobile + Biloxi + Tunica + Pascagoula left the Mississippi area for the Trans-Mississippi area of Louisiana after the French gave Louisiana to Spain. 1780 Chickasaw vs Patriots. Chickasaw siege of Patriots at Ft Jefferson. After four days the Chickasaw withdrew and a few weeks later the Patriots withdrew and burnt the fort. 1791 Chickasaw + USA vs Ohio Valley Alliance. Chickasaw provided 50+ scouts to the ill-fated St Clair expedition. 1791 Chickasaw vs Kickapoo. Kickapoo raids into western Kentucky are defeated. 1791 Chickasaw vs Muscogee. Pro-British Muscogee raid pro-USA Chickasaw. 1793-98 CHICKASAW-MUSCOGEE WAR. War is declared between the nations. A major Muscogee force is defeated at Longtown in 1796. Only minor skirmishing existed for the next few years. 1813-14 CREEK INDIAN WAR in Alabama. Chickasaw + Choctaw + USA vs Creek/Muskogee. See Southeast section for more details.
