Pre-1600 Mohawk vs Mahican + Pocumtuc. Over Wampum Trade.

1550- Laurentian Iroquois vs Montagnais + Algonquin + Ethcemin/Maliseet. Located along the St Lawrence Seaway area.

1570-1620 Mohawk + Oneida vs Eastern Algonkin + Pequot + Mahican

1600-40 Iroquois vs Erie + Neutrals + Wenro

1600-15 Iroquois vs Susquehannock + Erie

Pre-1610 Tionontati vs Huron

1606 Mohawks vs Pocumtuc fortified town at Ft Hill near Deersfield, Mass.

1609-10 Huron + Montagnais + Algonquin + French (Champlain) vs Mohawk. In 1609 a battle occurred on the southern shore of Lake Champlain. In 1610 another battle occurred on the Richelieu River. As a result of these defeats. The Iroquois began to change their battle tactics from compact mass assaults to looser formations.

1615 Oneida + Onondaga vs Algonkin

1615 Mohawk vs Susquehannock + Munsee/Lenape

1617 Mohawk vs Mahican. Over trading with the Dutch

1624-8 MAHICAN WAR : Mohawk vs Mahican + Sokoki + Pennacook +

Pocumtuc + Munsee/Delaware. The Mahicans allowing the Hurons to trade with the Dutch was a direct cause of the war. The war ended in 1628 with the defeat of the main Mahican force. In 1626 a few Dutch soldiers aided a Mahican warparty.

1629 Mohawk vs Sokoki. Mohawks raided Sokoki territory because of their support of the Mahican.

1629 Mohawk vs Algonkin + Montagnais. Raids on Trois Rivers and other towns.

1629-32 British control Quebec and do not allow trade with pro-French native nations. This lack of powder and shot forces pro-French native nations to withdraw from Iroquois forces. This results in a period of Iroquois exapansion and recovery of lost ground.

1630-1700 BEAVER WARS. A series of wars over trade with the Europeans and control over various hunting grounds. roquois( mainly Seneca, Onondaga, Cayuga) vs Algonkin + Huron + other pro-French nations. Main area of conflict was along the Great Lakes. Fighting occurred from Upper New York to the St Lawrence River to Wisconsin. A common encounter would be a convoy (composed of French traders and various native nations) of canoes loaded with pelts attempting to break an Iroquois blockade. The Iroquois victories destroyed many nations and caused a flood of refugees to flow west.

1632-48 HURON WAR. Iroquois vs Huron. Initially the Huron pushed the Iroquois back but the Iroquois would be victorious after they obtained guns from the Dutch.

1632 French provide Algonkins with matchlock-muskets which results in initial victories over the Iroquois.

1635 Seneca vs Huron. A major battle was fought with a Seneca victory. Considered to be a turning point in the Huron War.

1636-37 Mohawk vs Montagnais. Mohawk offensive against key towns.

1639-43 WENRO WARS: Seneca + Cayuga + Onondaga vs Wenro. The defeated Wenro merge with the Huron.

1640 Dutch provide Mohawks with matchlocks.

1642 Main Algonkin tribes destroyed by the Iroquois

1642-45 MONTAGNAIS WAR : Mohawk + Mahican vs Montagnais + Sokoki

1645 Mohawk + Sokoki + Mahican vs Montagnais. Main battle at the fortified Montagnais town of Sillery, Quebec.

1648 Dutch provide 400 Flintlocks to Mohawks. Mohawks give matchlocks to other Iroquois.

1648-49 Major defeats of the Huronia and Tionontati/ Hurons by the Seneca + Cayuga + Onondaga. In 1648 a massive Huron canoe flotilla attacked on the Ottawa River. In 1649, 2000 Mohawk + Seneca warriors attack St Ignace and St Louis (Canada).

1649 THE GREAT PURSUIT. The Iroquois Confederation conducts a relentless pursuit of Huron and Algonkin refugees.

1649-51 Seneca vs Neutrals + Tionontati. Tionontati overrun by 1650. Neutrals main town/fort, Kinuka, overrun in 1651.

1650s Esopus vs Seneca (only).

1650 Iroquois vs Tahonaenrat/Huron. Hurons raid Iroquois from base in Neutral territory.

1651-56 Oneida + Mohawk vs Susquehannock + Munsee/Lenape. Swedes provide Susquehannocks with muskets.

1651-55 FIRST MASCOUTEN WAR. Mascouten vs Cayuga + Onondaga + Seneca. The Iroquois victory caused the Mascouten to migrate west and settle among the Wea in SW Wisconsin.

1651-56 ERIE WAR: Seneca + Cayuga + Onondaga vs Erie. Started due to the Erie providing shelter to Huron and Neutral refugees. Erie raid kills Annencracos a Seneca sachem. In 1654 Seneca offensive destroys two major Erie towns. With the Erie defeat in 1656 many Erie were adopted by the conquering Iroquois.

1652 Susquehannock + Neutral refugees vs Seneca. The allies defeat a Seneca warparty.

1653 Mohawk vs Sokoki

1653 Seneca vs Wyandot + Potawatomi. Green Bay Wisc.

1655-63 POCUMTUC WAR: Mohawk vs Pocumtuc + Sokoki + Pennacook

1656 Mohawk vs Sokoki + Pocumtuc. Raids continued all over New England.

1657 Seneca vs Fox.

1657-76 FIRST SUSQUEHANNOCK WAR. Iroquois (Seneca + Onondaga + Cayuga) vs Susquehannock + Munsee/Lenape + Shawnee + subject tribes (Conoy + Saponi + Tutelo). Shawnee left in 1759 and the Lenapes left 1760.

1658-60 Mascouten vs Iroquois. Several skirmishes fought near Green Bay Wis.

1659 Iroquois vs Mahican Alliance of pro-French nations + Sokoki + Pennacook + Pocumtoc

1660 Mohawk vs Abenaki. in northern Maine Mohawk vs Maliseet. in New Brunswick area

1661-72 Mohawk vs Mahican. Over allowing the Alagonkin to trade with the Dutch.

1662 Mohawk vs Penabscot

1662 Nipissing + Ojibwe + Ottawa vs Oneida + Mohawk. Major battle at Sault St. Marie at the Eastern end of Lake Superior. Iroquois defeat.

1662-63 Iroquois vs Susquehannock + Honniasont/ Erie refugees. English aid Susquehannocks to stop a Iroquois raid in 1663.

1663-64 Mohawk + Seneca vs Pocumtuc. Mohawk attack in Dec on Ft. Hill (Deersfield, Mass). The Mohawks were defeated with a loss of 200+ warriors. However the Pocumtuc had to abandon their capital in 1664 due to the severe attrition of their warriors. Fled to the south and east.

1663-68 Mohawk vs Sokoki. Raids and retaliatory raids.

1663 Shawnee vs Iroquois. Consetoga.

1663 Mohawk vs Squawkeag. Squawkeag warparty raided Mohawk towns.

1664-69 Iroquois (except Seneca) vs Pocumtuc + Machican + Pennacook + Sokoki. The Alliance was destroyed by the Iroquois. Most of the remanents migrated out of the western New England area toward maine and Canada.

1663-76 MUNSEE WAR. Munsee vs Mohawks. War ended with a Mohawk victory at Minisink. After 1676 the Munsee were regarded as subjects under Mohawk rule.

1665-66 French Regular Army regiment, Salieres-Carigen, of 1200 men conducts an offensive vs Mohawks. The French success, destroying Tionnontoguen and Kanagaro, greatly weakens the Mohawks.

1665 Mascouten vs Iroquois.

1665-69 Mohawk vs Massachusetts (Native Nation). In 1665 Mohawks raided Massachusett villages near Boston. In 1669 the war ended after an unsuccessful attack on a Mohawk town at Wampatuck/Gandouagu during which the attackers were destroyed

1666 Mohawks vs Pennacook. Mohawks raid a key Pennacook town.

1668 Mohawk vs Sokoki + Kennebec + some Mahican. The allies make desperate but unsuccessful raids on Mohawk towns. After the Mohawk counter-strikes, most of the Sokoki migrate to Canada or northern Illinois and merge with the Miami and Potawatomi.

1671 Seneca vs Tutelo. In Virginia.

1671 Seneca vs Mackinac

1675-76 KING PHILLIP'S WAR . Pro-British Mohawks attacked the Sokoki & Pennacook.

1677 Lenapes including Munsee begin to pay annual tribute to Mohawks as part of the Covenant Chain. This would include military aid.

1680 Illinois (500) vs Seneca (500) + Miami (100). The Illini only had 100 guns with 400 rounds. The key battle was fought at Kaskasia on the Illinois River.

1681 Mahican warriors join (required) Iroquois warbands which attack native nations in South Carolina and Virginia.

1684 Ohio Valley Shawnee + Algonkin Confederation vs Iroquois

1684-1701 French alliance of small anti-Iroquois tribes vs Iroquois. Fought mainly along the southern coasts of the great Lakes.

1689-96 KING WILLIAMS WAR : Lenape warriors join Iroquois forces during the war. An estimated 65% of the Lenape warriors were killed as well as 50% of the Mohawks.

1689 Iroquois vs French. A major battle was fought at Lachine near Montreal. Over 200 Frenchmen were killed.

1693 Sokoki vs Mohawk. Sokoki raids on Mohawk towns.

1693-96 Frontenac's Campaign. Regular French troops and allies attack Iroquois towns in New York. Three different expeditions sent.

1696 Sokoki vs Onondaga. Sokoki raids on Onondaga towns.

1706-15 Mohawk vs Tsalagi. Mohawk raiders primarily searching for Shawnee attack several Tsalagi towns.

1714 Mohawk vs Catawba. Fought in South Carolina. Mohawks angry over Catawba attacks on the Tuscarora in previous years.

1754 FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR

1755 Seneca vs Virginia. Va militia ambush Seneca warparty who had been raiding Tsagali and Catawba in the Carolinas. This causes the Seneca, Cayuga and Onondoga to join the French alliance. The Mohawk and Oneida join the British side.

1755 Mowhawk + British vs Caughnawga + French. Due to the "Great Peace" accord between Iroquois, the natives watched while the British and French fought at Crown Point on Lake Champlain.

1755-56 Munsee vs Seneca. Munsee attack several Seneca towns.

1759 Mohawk + British vs French. The allies attacked the French at Fort Niagara.

1763-64 Mohawk vs Munsee. Fought for control of the Susquehanna Valley. The Mohawks destroyed seven towns including the capital Kanhanghton. Most surviving Munsee migrated to Ohio.

1763 PONTIAC REBELLION : Seneca vs British. The Seneca joins Pontiac and attacks the British at Fort Niagara, and later a British releif column.

1775-83 AMERICAN REVOLUTION : The Confederation is initially neutral,

1775-76, and later is split in its support. The Oneida and most Tuscarora support the Patriots. Their activities include providing guards for settlements and scouts for patriot forces. The Seneca, Onondoga, Cayuga and Mohawk support the British. The Seneca work closely with Butler's Rangers. The Mohawk under John Brant work with Johnson's Royal Greens.

TECUMSEH'S WAR . Some Iroquois clans and individuals supported Tecumseh but a majority of the tribes remained neutral.

1812-15 WAR OF 1812 : The Iroquois Confederation's population is located mainly in Canada. The Iroquois provide warriors to help the British.
