U-Boat Tour: Thursday

By Harry Cooper

Thursday was another day that did not require us to tumble out at an early hour, and we enjoyed a two hour tour of Hannover. We started at the Rathaus (an interesting name for City Hall, don't you think?) and we followed the 'Red Thread' through the ancient part of the city. Some clever person got the idea to paint a six-inch red line along the sidewalk from the Rathaus, past all the important sights then back again. It is impossible to get lost more or less.

After the tour of Hannover, we went to the Luftwaffe Museum and had the place reserved especially for our group. We had a nice buffet lunch and met Luftwaffe veterans then with one of these veterans as our guide, we toured the museum.

Since we returned to our hotel at a good time, some of the group got aboard the bus that stops outside our hotel and went downtown to see what was there. There must have been something of interest as they didn't return until late .... we still don't have the photos from that evening. Some of us (myself included) made the one-block walk to the little store that sells a fascinating candy called 'Mon Cheri' and it is a chocolate-covered cherry but filled with rum. I got a lot to take back to the US with me only I ate them here in Bremen, so I had to go buy some more each day..
