X-FilesThis Conspiracy X mission takes the characters into the midst of a government cover-up. The shadowy forces of the Black Book are desperate to keep an explosive secret, and protect one of their own in a position of power. Beginning characters are suitable for "All Saints Day", but the players should be experienced. The Aegis Cell should be based in San Diego, and a variety of backgrounds and skills are recommended. A few members with high combat skills will prove very useful. The Police Connection trait is crucial for at least one party member, and information-based psychic abilities are always helpful. Someone with the Hypnosis skill at level 3 or higher may prove valuable. The Computer Use and Computer Programming skills are usually desirable, but given the short time frame of the mission, Hacking tests will be impossible. Players who intend to participate in this mission should read no further. Set UpThe District Attorney of San Diego County, Justin Chin, and his wife, Madeline, are second generation Asian- Americans success stories. The Chins are also first generation alien-human hybrids, or Alpha metahumans. Their basically human DNA has been crossed with that of the mysterious Greys, and they have powerful psychic abilities as a result. Their child, Kevin, is an Omega metahuman (the product of two Alphas). Once mature, he will become an even more powerful psychic. Unfortunately for the Greys, and their pawns in the Black Book, Kevin Chin will never grow up. On October 29, Kevin was given over to a Black Book contract employee who is known only as Athox. Chin and his wife did not like the idea, but were acting under direct orders of their Grey masters. Athox was assigned the task of gathering seven young metahumans scattered about the city. Kevin was the only of the children kiddriapped that w s found murdered. For his own purposes, Athox drained Kevin of blood, chopped off his limbs, and disposed his body in dumpster behind the La Jolla University Town Center (UTC) shopping mall. Word soon reached District Attorney Justin Chin and Black Book damage control protocols were instituted. Luther Boch, a senior detective on the San Diego police force, was assigned the case and instructed to keep the identity of the murdered child a secret. The Black Book and the Greys wanted no close investigation of the Chins. Boch, who is loyal to Black Book, is also an infiltrator in Aegis. One member of his Cell, Theresa Adkins, is a Project MKULTRA psychologist specializing in mind control and hypnosis. She carries her own MHIC-EDOM. Boch's initial plan is to use Adkins' skills liberally. This soon proves impossible. FormatThe initial hook for the Aegis Cell is a news story about the killing. This information is followed closely by an alert via the Cell leader's HERMES links. After that, the investigation could take many paths depending on the party's inclinations. The storyline is presented in a logical order over the next several pages, but this order is certainly not the only route the party's investigation could follow. GMs should be certain to read through all sections in order to react quickly and coherently to the Cell's actions.
