Rhiannon Winterdawn Rank: Commander
Rhiannon is in her late twenties. Her most distinguishing feature is a long scar running down her right cheek and neck from an old sword-wound. She has night-black hair (usually tied back in a purely-functional pony tail), and sky-blue eyes. A lifetime of fighting and hard labor has resulted in her scraggly appearance and thick musculature, both of which tend to intimidate (or intrigue) some men. Rhiannon is an extremely skilled fighter and tactician. Having spent her entirely life around war-hardened soldiers, she has developed a reputation for being hard on new recruits. The more skilled veterans of the company enjoy sharing terrifyingly lavish tales of her treatment of former inductees. "Even their worst nightmares would huddle in a corner and cry." Most of her reputation stems from her father's legacy however, and many members of the company need to see her as authoritative in order to maintain the cohesion of the Dragons. In combat, she is every bit the moody and melancholy commander that he father was. The stress of combat seems to provide her with a focus to overcoming her own panging self- doubt. Away from the battlefield, she is a well-meaning an honorable person who cares for her men more so than she is willing to admit. Rhiannon would gladly sacrifice her life for the company. Often plagued by inner doubts that she is not living up to her father's legacy, and riddled with guilt over his untimely death, she is still trying to prove herself to him. Her relationship with Condar is quirky at best. Condar's childish fascination with human things provides her with a piece of naivete and innocence that was so lost in her own youth - sometimes he seems lost in the simplicity of a saddle or canteen. To see a smile form on her face, which is mostly marred by consternation and seriousness, would surely be foreign and out of place to those who would not understand this side of her, but Condar seems quite at ease with this dichotomy. Rhiannon takes great pleasure in the times they have together. Who knows how long it will last... ? Condar (Real name unpronounceable by humans)
Condar is in actuality a dragon who was cursed years ago by a powerful wizard, trapping him in human form. He has been searching for a counterspell, but the curse is very potent and it may be many years yet before he finds a way to free himself. As human shells go, however, Condar has been fortunate. He is handsome and muscular, appearing to be in his early twenties, with mahogany hair and hazel eyes. Anyone who is near him for more than a few minutes will sense something very unsettling and alien about him, and his drilling gaze makes one feel as if they've been "violated" by the most powerful scrying mind. Most mundane animals hate Condar, and will cringe in fear or run away at top speed in his presence; it took nearly a year for him to train his current mount. Even though Condar appears human and is becoming accustomed to their ways, his soul is still that of a fierce, proud dragon. This is no clearer than in combat. He attacks opponents with a vicious fury few humans can match. He also seems to have retained some of his natural body's physical might, as his strength and resilience border on the superhuman. His berserker rages in combat frighten most of the company and even Rhiannon has been known to become unsettled by his fits of rage. Condar is kind and fiercely loyal to those he calls friends. However, since joining he has felt that their is an foreign presence within the company that could threaten to destroy the Dragons. Condar has taken strides to protect Rhiannon without alerting her to his suspicions, all the while attempting to discover the identity of the threat. The other member's of the company do not feel the same level of loyalty to Condar however, and this high level of resentment could he the reason why Condar feels unsettled. His feelings for Rhiannon at first shocked and puzzled him. Unsure of the exact nature of his feelings, his human shell has bound him to those human emotions and his relationship with Rhiannon is authentic and experimental all at once. Rhiannon's strength of character is not to be dismissed in this either, as he has since grown to cherish her beyond words. This has also caused him quite a bit of inner turmoil. If he were to find a cure for his curse -- which he so desperately wants -- he will no longer be human and will have to leave Rhiannon... Ruckus Skullbasher Rank: Lieutenant
Ruckus is an Orc (or any other war-loving non-human race in your campaign) who was exiled by his people decades ago. [GMs are encouraged to develop the exact nature of Ruckus' departure from his tribe to fit their specific campaign - perhaps his tribe still seeks his head for his transgressions.] He was one of the first new soldiers recruited by Cressus, and has been with the Rogue Dragons longer than any other living member except Aegim and Roric. He was Cressus' best friend, and has worked hard to become Rhiannon's as well. Because of this, he resents Condar more than anyone. A staunch defender of Rhiannon, he questions he judgement now she has taken to be with this outsider. Ruckus is careful to keep an eye on Condor in hopes of catching him in some nefarious act. Ruckus is a grizzled veteran who believes (with some justification) that he has seen it all. Despite his barbarous upbringing, he is an honorable sort, but he often plays the snarling, hellbent Orc warrior when the men get out of line. He appreciates the more visceral pleasures in life, like drinking, gambling, and women, and always has trouble holding onto his money. Years of warfare are beginning to catch up to Ruckus and he now looks forward to a day when he could retire; but even he knows this will never happen...
