Victorian Colonial Other Items

by Capt. John Harrel

Hank Martin, the author of the SOLDIER OF THE QUEEN Colonial rules, needs help playtesting his new French Foreign Legion rules, HONNEUR ET PATRIE. If you're interested, drop his a line at 11012 Burnley Terrace, Wheaton, MD 20902.

Howard Whitehouse is working on a Zulu War version of his SCIENCE VS. PLUCK rules. He also informs me that his latest booklet, BATTLE IN AFRICA, is due out in December.

GEO-HEX has released several new sets of terrain. The most useful, perhaps, for Colonial gamers is the Sunken Road set. This is almost a must for setting up Northwest Frontier, American West or Sudan terrain, as it allows you to produce all sorts of new defiles, box canyons, dead-ends, etc. Also new are the Tournament Sets of terrain. These are the same sets sold in Britain and are a super deal when one considers what they include. The Tournament Basic gives you everything to play an a roughly 4'x6' area, including completer (half) pieces, and it all fits in one box! The price is also considerably cheaper than the original Basic set plus Completer sets. Geo-Map, a map system to go with the terrain should be available soon. This will allow you to play campaigns and use Geo-Hex! There will be a price increase an many items in January, so if you've been contemplating ordering, do it before the end of the year. Lastly, Geo-Hex now has a U.S. Patent; No. 4,685,884.

Fans of Zulu chants may be interested in two recordings by the LADYSMITH BLACK MAMBAZO, who accompanied Paul Simon in his recent "Graceland" album. Warner Bros. No.25582-4, 'Shaka Zulu' and Shanachie No. 43040, 'Inala', both feature this all-male accapella group. There are no war chants, regrettably.
