Spring Hill Special Rules 1.) Bate's Division: This division may not be activated until 8:00PM Game Time unless one of the following two events occur. A) A ten is rolled on a ten sided dice or B) One of the brigades is fired upon or meleed in any turn 2.) Forrest's Corps: Active but all are low on ammo for the entire scenario. Certain cavalry units fight as dismounted only. They are denoted on the map with a (D). 3.) Spring Hill: The works here are -2 for fire combat and melee. 4.) Hood: Hood's presence on the battlefield is a malevolent one. As long as Hood is in command, all units take an automatic -1 on the maneuver charts. 5.) Federal Goal: The goal of all Federal units is to exit the gameboard at point C. They enter the gameboard at point B, the Colurnbia.Nashville Turnpike. There are 3 Army Supply Train units which must be protected at all hazards. They represent 5 victory points each. If, at anyjuncture, a Confederate (non-spent) brigade comes into contact with one of these trains, they we captured. It is the goal of the US player to protect these three train units. This applies to the Spring Hill scenario and the campaign game. 6.) Garrison: The troops in the Spring Hill Garrison may be placed by Cox or Schofield, but draw no benefit from them on the morale and maneuver charts. 7.) McCutchen Ck.: This creek is not crossable by cavalry or artillery except at fords or bridges. It is 1/4 movement for infantry. Franklin Special Rules 1.) Franklin: The works here are -2 for fire combat and melee. 2.) R. Granger: R. Granger is -3 for fire combat and melee and my contain one battery or a brigade of infantry of cavalry. Command stands may be added at no extra value. 3.) Cavalry: All off-table Confederate cavalry may enter the board in accordance with the reinforcement schedule. One any off-table CS cavalry brigade does so they have activated Wilson's Cavalry Corps. They may now enter in accordance with the same table. Troops in the town of Franklin may not be fired upon as they are considered out of line of sight. Those on the works may be fired upon as per normal. 4.) Harpeth Riv.: This river is treated as 115 movement for infantry. Cavalry and artillery must cross at bridges or fords. Campaign Special Rules: 1.) Pursuit: Confederate units may not move within twelve inches of the Northern Map edge of the Spring Hill Table until 9:00PM game time due to historic reasons. Their orders were confused and downright conflicting from Corps vs. Army level. Cheatham's initial orders were counter-manded by Hood which led to complete inaction by Brown and Bate. 2.) Bate: Bate's Division must roll a ten for activation. If this does not occur no movement may be undertaken until they are fired upon or charged by the Federals. Once a ten is rolled, Bate's Division may move once five without rolling on the maneuver chart. They roll at the beginning of each CS movement turn starting at 4:30P (turn two). 3.) US Exit: Once any Federal unit, exits the Spring Hill map they are considered to have made it to the works in Franklin. They may be placed there at the discretion of the US player. 4.) CS forces: Must be placed on the Franklin Map per the Franklin Scenario set up. 5.) CS Losses: All troops lost in fire combat or skedaddling may be recovered at the rate of 50% as stragglers. Captured troops DO NOT qualify for straggler recovery. This is assumed to have occurred during the evening of November 29. All recovered stands are in place for the daybreak turn in Franklin. 6.) CS Fatigue: If any offensive actions are taken before the 10:OOA game turn the troops are considered to be fatigued. They must roll on the disordered effects chart until they are removed from musket range and rested for one hour (two full turns). This included fire combat and melee. 7.) US Losses: All losses on the US side are permanent and not recoverable. This is due to the nature of their headlong retreat to Franklin. 8.) Victory Pts: If the Confederates have an unspent brigade in Spring Hill at the end of the 8:00PM turn on 29 November, they receive 5 victory points. US supply train stands captured are worth 5 victory points as well. Any unspent CS brigade in Franklin at the end of the 4:00PM game turn on 30 November awards 5 victory points to the CS player. Casualties are counted as per Fire & Fury Standard Rules. The US player is awarded 5 Victory points for preventing the capture of Spring Hill and Franklin as specified above. They also are awarded 5 points for each supply train stand exited off the Spring Hill table before 12:00AM turn on the 29 November. 9.) Casement: Casement's brigade had a high number of Spencers and Henrys repeaters. Therefore this brigade receives a column shift to the right on the musketry and cannonade table. 10.) Starts: Spring Hill scenario and the campaign both begin at 3:00PM on the 29 November. Franklin scenario begins at 3:00PM on the 30th or at 8:00AM in the campaign rules. 11.)
