Admiral Dewey Named CNO!

Special Naval Y2K Section

by Steve Thorne

Admial Dewey has been recalled to active duty by a Pentagon computer. A spokesman for the Defense Department noted that this was likely to be mistaken as a hostile gesture toward Spain but could possibly be seen as good economic news in Manila. "It may also cause problems with Chinese relations, already strained by the nuclear spying scandal, since the same computer has ordered the fleet to sortie to put pressure on China to quell the Boxers," said Commander Bud "Light" Smith of the Navy Public Relations Office. (NAVPUBRELOFF).

[Ed. Note: This should not be confused with the new head of the Russian Baltic Fleet, ADM. Alexsei Navpubreloff.)

"Fortunately, none of the ships in the order are afloat." When asked how having a dead admial as CNO would affect combat readiness, Commander Smith replied, "I don't think anyone will notice."
