MORNERSKA HUSSARS

It was considered the senior light cavalry regiment of the Swedish Army. The Crown Prince of Sweden, the former French Marshal Bernadotte, had been saving his small army for action against the Danes. Now, the hussars led the pursuit northward after the defeat of Napoleon at Leipzig. In this, the third and final part of our study on the Swedes during the 1813 Germany campaign, the only other Swedish unit to see combat got their baptism of fire at the village of Bornhoft.

LAST INVASION OF BRITAIN

Revolutionary France hoped to liberate Ireland in 1797, but the invasion force was thwarted by storms. The only French able to land went ashore in Wales, not Ireland, led by an American from South Carolina. Many of the invaders had been "liberated" themselves -- from Parisian jails. What followed was not much of a battle, but sent a panic through England.

Personalities

CAROLINE OF BRUNSWICK

Millions mourned the death of Diana, Princess of Wales. Another Princess of Wales, Caroline, also suffered through a difficult marriage and met an untimeley death--in 1821. The original "People's Princess" was equally popular with her subjects, and many suspected she had been murdered by her adulterous husband, George IV, bringing England to the brink of revolution.
