Using ADCs in Campaigns

Events to Date:
"The War of the
Kronstadt Succession"

By Steve Turner

Upon the death of the Duke of Kronstadt, the kingdom of Hesse (a major state located to the north of Kronstadt) invaded. Under the guise of a "protector" King Wilhelm II sent an army to annex the dukedom, obviously having an eye to acquiring the duchy for himself. The terms of the 'Treaty of Prylau' (mentioned above) had precluded the Kronstadt government (which still paid "lip-service to the treaty) from raising forces of any size other than a few garrison units, thus leaving the duchy's chancellor little alternative but to appeal for outside help. This came from Emperor Leopold of Istrya/Galicia who attempted to restore the status quo.

In consequence (and using the computer rules "Over the Hills") on the 28th May 1733, a Hessian army of 26,500 under the command of Feldmarschall Fredrich Von Ragen was narrowly defeated by 28,700 Istrya/ Galicians (known throughout the campaign as the "Imperialists") led by Feldmarschall Lorenburg upon the battlefield of "Kleindorf".

The Hessians retreated to lick their wounds, but were replaced soon afterwards by a far more dangerous threat to Kronstadt independence - that of the Lorraine/Ravensburg alliance.
