Review By Graham Empson
Ian (Turbo Type) Duncan has written to me on the subject of Great Battles of Alexander as follows: As my main historical interest is in the Greek/Macedonian/Persian wars, I was very interested in the forth coming Great Battles of Alexander from SSI. I saw an early preview of this game in a computer mag a few months ago when it was simply entitled 'The Ancients'. From some of the graphics shown, I was disappointed to see the Persians looking more like Sassanids than Achaemenids (still what's a few hundred years). Also, the comments from the games producer, "The elephants actually do trample and stomp on people: we already have a demo of them walking up and squashing some Greeks." didn't inspire much confidence. I don't hold out much hope for this one, at least for historical accuracy, but, as you say, if it's got a decent AI [Artificial Intelligence] engine it could be a good game. More Reviews
