In general I have to say that the news front at the time of writing (September 1995) is just a little sparse but believe me people it will undoubtedly heat up the closer to Christmas we actually get. Remember this corner will never be first with the news, but it does aim to filter out the rubbish, leaving the bits of most interest to wargamers. I actually saved all my 'junk mail' in August, then measured the pile of paper, it amounted to 10 inches of glossy paper for the shredder. Now if any of you have any news, opinions, reviews just let me know (living in hopes) and you can have your name in print, but I shall carry on trawling through the glossy paper on your behalf. Remember I told you 'Third Reich by Avalon Hill' was coming as their first of a series of classics converted from board to PC. Well, by the time you read this it should be out on the street. The man responsible for the development strategy at Avalon and the brains behind the computerization of the classics has now branched out on his own and formed Talensoft. The company will specialize in war and strategy games. Their first release will be 'Battlefield Ardennes'. This will be a hex based game running in Windows, but much will depend on how well it uses the Windows interface and how advanced the graphics are. Games such as Panzer General have set new standards in hex based games of late, so it will be interesting to see what both these games are like when they appear. If you spot any demos or previews then let us know. Does anyone out there know anything about a Japanese company called Koei Corporation of Japan? Apparently they were one of the earliest exponents of the strategy game, and my sources tell me they are very good. They seem to have got stuck in a bit rut by producing at least seven games based on Feudal Japan (are you reading this Kenn?). The first ever game was called 'Nobunaga's Ambition', way back in 1982, and the forthcoming offering is to be called 'Romance Of the Three Kingdoms: Wall Of Fire' which is due for release on CD-ROM around Christmas time (which cynic said surprise, surprise?). The games are at strategic and tactical levels with resource management (economics?) thrown in. It seems its all about dominating and conquering (rather like committee meetings and party political conferences really - did I say that tsk, tsk) then rolling on to the next area for subjugation. Anyway if anyone has any details or even one of the games then let us know. More Reviews
