Wargame Accessories Review

Terrain and Other

by Mark Hannam

I mentioned Frontline Wargaming briefly in the previous Gauntlet, but I never quite put across what an Alladin`s Cave they are for the wargamer.

The product range is well thought out and amongst the more usual walls, gates, trenches, bunkers and field accessories are skirmish accessory sets which have hitherto only been available in the realm of Fantasy Roleplaying. In addition, everything is very affordable and needs little if any cleaning up before painting and in some cases assembly.

The 25mm Musketeers Range includes MUS1 Tavern Set with bar, shelving. fireplace, table and benches for £ 4.25; MUS3 Brewery with 4 vats, 2 tubs and bottling table for £ 3.60; MUS4 Market Place with 4 stalls (baker, fruit/veg, haberdashers, pots/pans) and a fountain £ 3.20; MUS5 Boudoir Set with double bed, wardrobe, dressing table, stool and large mirror £ 2.90.

The 25mm Wild West Range similarly has 25FW1 Homestead Set, £ 2.70; 25FW2 Saloon Set with bar, shelving, piano, table and chairs for £ 3.50; 25FW3 Store Set, £ 3.50; 25FW5 Blacksmith Set, £ 2.00; 25FW9 Bank Set including counter, safe, desk, bookcase, £ 2.25; and 25FW10 Hotel Set, £ 2.10.

Of course, you`re gonna need somewhere to put these worldly goods and Frontline has a series of buildings which fit the bill nicely. Unlike most on the market, these are designed to accomodate both furniture and figures. For instance, FWB8 Plank Built Hotel has a saloon base, balcony (for falling from), internal stairs, external stairs and room dividers for £ 22.50. Most of the buildings including the FWB4 Bank and FWB3 Jail bank are under £ 10.

You can build your own Fire Base from the 20mm Vietnam Range. There are various bunkers, perimeter fire positions and heavy weapons pits such as FV4 Mortar Position, at £ 3.80. But more about these next time.

I was very impressed by the quality of the resin and can only recommend that you send off for a catalogue - you`ll be surprised.
