Clan War

If you buy into the miniatures system of Clan War, AEG makes a number of clan-specific expansion packs to add some personalities and style to your army. Included are new cards covering personalities, spells, and units, new miniatures, and a 48-page rules booklet containing the clan "history," clan-specific rules, optional rules, illustrations, and brief bios of personalities and units. The Naga, an old race from ages gone by, are upper half human and lower half serpent. Once lost to the ages after vanquishing a great evil, they have slept until needed again. Well, again has come, and awaken they have become, ready to battle evil. And the fiction that supports each of these booklets reads well enough. But the real reason to buy this expansion set is for miniatures gaming. The figures are quite exquisite, especially the scaling of the serpentine portion of the figure. The upper torso offers enough detail to keep pace with the two-footed kind of miniatures. Being of two pieces, you'll need to glue them together--and easy enough task as the torso fits over the tail atop a rounded bump. You'll need to cut some of the excess metal away, but as you can see in the photo, the casting is fairly clean. As a bonus, you can reposition them at various angles, offering a hint of individuality rather than ranks of the same position. The bases for the Naga are twice the size of regular human bases. The Rules and Rules Errata are necessary evils of game design as multiple playtestings by consumers bring up all sorts of questions. I'm not quite sure the expansion pack is the forum for rules clarifications, but they're in there. The personality and unit cards (a personality card for Shahadet is at right) are reproduced in the booklet, along with a short fictional bio and illustration of the unit or personality and advice on how they are supposed to be used. Whether you use it or not in this manner depends upon your army and deck construction, but designers have motivations, too. And that's it. The figures are cool, the information relevant to Clan War, and the price for the expansion set is $45.
