With Origins drawing near there were only five individuals signed up for the Leningrad: 1941 tournament. It was apparent GRD would not get the minimum of 16 participants needed for conducting the tournament. Therefore, the decision was made to cancel the event. Participants who had already registered were informed and their tournament fees refunded. This is unfortunate, as GRD believes that a highly competitive tournament with valuable prizes would be a memorable event for all involved. However, devising a format that allows Europa players to compete in several rounds of play in the time available at a convention, without requiring them to show up when the doors open and play non-stop until they drop, remains an illusive challenge.
